Funds to Strengthen Your House

Get up to $3,000 toward an Earthquake Retrofit

Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) helps homeowners strengthen their home and protect against earthquake damage. EBB offers a grant of up to $3,000 toward a seismic retrofit for qualifying older houses.

In addition to the $3,000 grant, we have a grant specifically for income-eligible homeowners (household annual income is $72,080 or less), as funding permits. EBB has already helped thousands of California homeowners complete seismic retrofits!

About the EBB Retrofit

Is your house earthquake ready?

In a brace + bolt retrofit, the foundation is bolted to the frame of the house, and if there is a crawl space (or cripple wall), it is braced with plywood or OSB sheathing. This helps prevent the house from sliding or toppling off its foundation during an earthquake.

Earthquake Brace + Bolt surpasses 20,000 retrofits statewide

The Brace + Bolt programs provide grants for a specific "building-code-compliant" seismic retrofit. This type of retrofit strengthens an older house to help prevent it from sliding off its foundation during an earthquake.

About alt

Established by the California Residential Mitigation Program (CRMP)

CRMP is a joint powers authority created by the California Earthquake Authority and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. CRMP was established to carry out mitigation programs to assist California homeowners who wish to seismically retrofit their houses. Our goal is to provide grants and other types of assistance and incentives for these mitigation efforts and EBB is the first of these programs.
